Rick Ross Teams Up with Diddy, Meek Mill and French Montana for \"Bout That Life\"
Rick Ross is back with a new single from his upcoming album Self Made, Vol. 3, which is set to drop on September 17th. The track, titled \"Bout That Life\", features Diddy, Meek Mill and French Montana, and is produced by The MeKanics.
The song samples a famous promo by wrestling legend Ric Flair, who boasts about his lavish lifestyle and challenges his opponents. Ross and his guests follow suit, rapping about their wealth, fame and street credibility over a hard-hitting beat.
\"Bout That Life\" premiered on Hot 97 and has since been released in CDQ/mastered quality. It is one of the most anticipated tracks from Self Made, Vol. 3, which will also feature Wale, Omarion, Rockie Fresh, Gunplay and more.
You can listen to \"Bout That Life\" below and pre-order Self Made, Vol. 3 on iTunes.
\"Bout That Life\" is not the only collaboration between Ross and Diddy on the album. The two also join forces on \"Stack On My Belt\", along with Wale and Whole Slab. Diddy also serves as an executive producer for Self Made, Vol. 3, along with Ross himself.
Other highlights from the album include \"Black Grammys\" by Wale, Meek Mill, Rockie Fresh and J. Cole, which celebrates their success and pays homage to their influences; \"Know You Better\" by Omarion, Fabolous and Pusha T, which is a smooth R&B track with witty wordplay; and \"Poor Decisions\" by Wale, Ross and Lupe Fiasco, which addresses the social issues and contradictions in the rap game.
Self Made, Vol. 3 also pays tribute to Lil Snupe, a rising rapper from Louisiana who was signed to Meek Mill's Dream Chasers Records. He was shot and killed on June 20, 2013, at the age of 18. The album opens with a \"Lil' Snupe Intro\", which features a freestyle by Snupe over a piano instrumental. He also appears on the bonus track \"My Man\" with Ross, Meek Mill and Rockie Fresh.
The album received generally positive reviews from music critics, who praised the production and the diversity of the MMG roster. At Metacritic, which assigns a normalized rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, the album received an average score of 63, based on six reviews. David Jeffries of AllMusic gave the album four out of five stars, calling it \"a label sampler at heart\" and highlighting \"Coupes & Roses\", \"Black Grammys\" and \"The Great Americans\" as standout tracks. He also noted that \"the slow and restrained moments offer rich rewards\".
However, some critics were less impressed by the album's lyrical content and cohesion. Jesse Fairfax of HipHopDX gave the album three out of five stars, saying that \"Self Made Vol. 3 is a mixed bag leaning more towards hits than misses. Though cohesion is an issue, thereâs enough quality music here to appease those with a taste for Maybachâs luxurious yet street-oriented sound.\" Julian Kimble of XXL gave the album an L rating, which indicates a good but not great project. He wrote that \"Self Made Vol. 3 is a solid offering, but doesnât do much to distinguish itself from its predecessors or any other MMG release.\" He also criticized some of the guest appearances, saying that \"they often outshine their hosts\". ec8f644aee
